Ballet dancer Yukie Iwaki experiences wellness hotel life
Yukie Iwaki, a former principal of the Tokyo Ballet, is currently pursuing ballet at a global level.Iwaki Ballet StudioIwaki, who not only presides over and serves as artistic director of the company (founded in 2012) but also continues to be active as a dancer, recently tried out the wellness lunch course with "InBody" and spoke to us about her experience.
Ms. Iwaki was smiling throughout the interview, and her beautiful posture with her back straightened left an impression. She is well versed in the wellness field in general, and while deepening her knowledge, she practices what she can do herself. We interviewed her about the wellness project "Get your body in shape for autumn'(*The photo was taken at the time of the interview. For details on the winter menu, here.please look at. )This is a special plan in which guests will have their physical condition analyzed in their room using the InBody body composition analyzer, and the wellness food concierge will provide an explanation of the results, before enjoying the nutritionally balanced wellness cuisine created by the hotel's exclusive wellness food concierge (registered dietitian), Oshima Ruriko, together with head chef Kitajima Sadaharu.
"For a dancer, the body is the most important asset. At home, I use a scale that can measure body fat and muscle mass every day to keep track of my weight, but since it's for home use, I'm happy to be able to get accurate numbers on the InBody and have a menu that I can eat for lunch. You can quantify your current physical condition and see it objectively." Iwaki-san said. She had been here a while ago with her fellow ballet dancers. "We all had a lot of fun," she said with a smile.
"It's great to be able to check things like weight and body fat percentage, but also the quality and balance of your muscles. The wellness lunch you can eat after the InBody experience is made with healthy ingredients in a balanced way, so you can enjoy it without feeling guilty."
Satisfy your heart and stomach with seasonal ingredients that look as delicious as they are delicious
"The colors and presentation are beautiful, and the balance is wonderful. You can really feel the chef's creativity and love in the food. When you say 'healthy food', it can often be restrictive and a little unsatisfying, but this course is low in fat and uses seasonal appetizers, with a balanced lineup of fish and meat, and you can even get dessert, so it's a very satisfying course. I really like it!" said Iwaki, enthusiastically.
"The portions are reasonable, but the fact that it's healthy and not heavy is also appealing. They also have a wellness food concierge who gives detailed explanations about the menu items which is helpful, and you can get a lot of different wellness information, so I would love to try it every month. It's delicious, and you can eat seasonal ingredients at the time, so I actually recommend it to a lot of people (laughs)," she continues with the happy words.
Iwaki has adopted a variety of health methods so far, but it's interesting to know how he normally eats and manages his health.
"So far, there have been many dietary changes, including macrobiotics (a dietary method based mainly on brown rice, consisting of beans, vegetables, and seaweed, and incorporating the unique theories of body and earth and yin-yang), fasting, carbohydrate restriction, and raw food (A dietary style that incorporates raw vegetables, fruits, nuts, and other ingredients.I have been searching for a method that suits me. Currently, I prioritize seasonal and pesticide-free foods, and eat about 2% home-cooked food vs. 3% eating out. I feel that 1 meals a day is too much for me, so I eat 2 meals a day. And when I eat, I chew my food well. I try not to eat anything that is obviously bad for my body.I think the most important thing is to listen to your body."I do eat junk food occasionally, but I try to enjoy it without feeling guilty. I also go to buffets. However, I adjust my intake the next day to balance things out in my own way. My motto is to not be too strict, but to have fun and enjoy good food," says Iwaki.
Posture is the basis for maintaining your core! Value your own sensibilities
In today's world, where knowledge about food and health is constantly being updated and we are overwhelmed with information, Iwaki remains flexible and listens to her own body to keep herself in a comfortable state. She never feels tired and is full of energy, which is probably the result of her accumulated knowledge and practice.
"Well, I don't feel tired that much, and I'm generally fine (laughs). Speaking of habits that I've naturally acquired, I try not to compromise my posture in my daily life. I think that maintaining a strong core is a very important point for maintaining health and physique. When it comes to maintaining physique,Rather than trying to maintain an ideal weight, I think it's more about looking at yourself in the full-body mirror and seeing whether you look like yourself.Being thin isn't everything, it's about being yourself! Also, maintaining a body shape that you feel comfortable with gives you confidence. Of course, that doesn't mean you won't lose your strength. But there are things you can only notice as you get older. I think that's what's interesting. In the end, I think that valuing your own senses, having fun, and being grateful is important for both wellness and ballet.
He has been dancing for 40 years. The Iwaki style is to always enjoy and stay positive, while cherishing the experiences and senses he has cultivated. His words carry a lot of depth and weight.
