Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts and its graduate school, and from the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, Netherlands.
He is a recipient of the 29th Watanabe Akio Music Fund Music Award, the 71st Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists, the 18th Saito Hideo Memorial Fund Award, and the 18th Hotel Okura Music Award.
He is the Principal Conductor of the Bach Collegium Japan (BCJ), Conductor/Creative Partner of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, and Music Director of Ensemble Genesis. In addition to performing with the NHK Symphony Orchestra and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra as a conductor, he has performed "The Coronation of Poppea" (2017) and "Rinaldo" (2020) as part of the BCJ Opera Series produced by Suzuki Masato. In May 2022, he will make his debut as a conductor at the New National Theatre in Gluck's opera "Orfeo ed Euridice" (newly directed by Teshigawara Saburo).
He is a regular guest on NHK-FM's "The Joy of Early Music." He is executive producer of the Chofu International Music Festival and visiting professor at Kyushu University.
