Nobuo Furukawa

After graduating from Toho Gakuen School of Music, he studied at the Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary. Upon returning to Japan in 1998, he became the principal cellist of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, a position he holds to this day.
As a soloist, he has performed with many orchestras and renowned conductors both in Japan and abroad, including on national tours with the Toyota Master Players, Vienna, a chamber orchestra comprised of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's principal players, and the Leningrad State Opera Orchestra. In 2003, he received the 2nd Hideo Saito Memorial Fund Award.
In terms of his solo activities, he has been the cellist who has attracted attention from all quarters for his popularity and talent, including performing the solo part of the theme song for the movie "Departures."
To date, he has released ten solo albums and two best collections. In 10, he formed the unit "KOBUDO" with Dozan Fujiwara (shakuhachi) and Takeshi Senoo (piano).
In 2017, they celebrated their 10th anniversary and released their first greatest hits album, "Tennensai."
