At Hotel GrandBach, in support of the international music movement “Bach in the Subways,” held to celebrate J.S. Bach’s birthday on March 21, we will provide our public spaces within the hotel free of charge to those wishing to perform for two days: Saturday, March 21 and Sunday, March 22, 2026.
“Bach in the Subways” is a grassroots movement that began in 2010 when cellist Dale Henderson performed Bach’s Cello Suites for Solo Cello in the New York City subway. With the desire “to celebrate Bach’s birthday and carry classical music into the future,” he refused to accept tips and instead handed out free postcards. This offering of a pure musical experience resonated with many, and the movement has since spread to dozens of countries, with thousands of musicians participating worldwide.

About “Bach in the Subways”
This is an international music movement started in 2010 by cellist Dale Henderson, who began performing Bach’s Cello Suites in the New York City subway.
With the vision of “celebrating Bach’s birthday and connecting classical music to the future,” he declined tips and distributed free postcards instead. This initiative to provide a pure musical experience gained widespread sympathy and has since grown into a global effort where musicians perform Bach for free in public spaces, sharing the allure of classical music with a wide audience.
